Westbury Friends School is a culturally diverse Friends school in the heart of Nassau County. It was founded in 1957 by the members of the Westbury Monthly Meeting under whose care the school still exists. The school opened with 16 children, including four from Quaker families. In its earliest years, classes were held in the two buildings that are now known as the Orthodox Building and the Center. Over the past 50 years, additional classrooms were added, as well as a beautiful Library/Media Center, in order to meet the needs of the larger community which it now serves. Children from over 40 surrounding communities come to Westbury Friends School because of the strong educational program that the school provides, the deep sense of community that exists, and because of the Quaker values that are woven into the very fabric of the learning community.
Westbury Friends School is a not-for-profit educational corporation, chartered by the New York State Board of Regents. It is a part of the New York State Association of Independent Schools and has been accredited by them as well, through a peer review system. WFS is also a member of the Friends Council on Education, which provide professional development, publications, consulting and other resources to keep Friends schools connected to each other and to their missions.
